Lely High School alumni returned to the school in December to encourage the next generation of aviators to chase their dreams.
The alumni were once students in Lely High’s Aviation Academy , which allowed them access to advanced avionics simulators and scholarship program. The program also offered a dual-enrollment option where students could earn college credits at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Four former students visited Lely High School to share their journey with current students. All four are now professionals in the aviation industry ― one has already earned the rank of captain.
The aviation program is led by Alan Davis, who is an adjunct professor at Embry-Riddle. He ensures Lely students receive the same curriculum as students who attend the Embry-Riddle campus in Daytona Beach.
“This is why we do what we do,” Davis said. “Seeing them come back as professionals to give back to the program is incredibly rewarding. it’s proof of the doors aviation education can open for our students.”
