Driver freed after bizarre crash leaves utility pole impaled through car near East Berlin

Firefighters freed a victim who was heavily pinned in their vehicle after a bizarre crash that left a utility pole impaled through the vehicle in Paradise Township late Friday afternoon, according to officials.

According to the release by Northeast Adams Fire & EMS , firefighters were called to the scene of a reported crash with entrapment on the 5200 block of East Berlin Road in Paradise Township around 4:42 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.

As firefighters began to arrive, they discovered that a driver was trapped inside of a sedan, which was on its side, up an embankment, and with part of a utility pole impaled through the vehicle, the release said.

“The car had lost control, went up an embankment, and struck the pole sideways,” according to the release.

While the pole was breaking, and the car was still in the air, the broken segment of the utility pole went through the car, the release said. The pole impaled through the front driver’s side door of the vehicle across to the front passenger door, according to the release.
