Janesville Police Department announces retirements

JANESVILLE — The Janesville Police Department celebrated the retirements of Court Officer Dan Hanson and Police Support Specialist Karen Burdick on Friday.

Hanson joined the department as a patrol officer June 1, 1999. During his career, he served as a patrol officer on first, second and third shifts and as court liaison officer. He was also a member of the Honor Guard, Crisis Intervention Team and Motorcycle Unit.

He received the Problem Oriented Policing Award as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team in 2016 and a Chief’s Commendation in 2018. He retires after 25 years of service.

Burdick joined the department Feb. 24, 1997. She served as records supervisor, administrative assistant and police support specialist.

She received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award in 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2013. In 2024, she received a Chief’s Commendation. She retires after 27 years of service.
