A Houston convicted felon has been sentenced for drug trafficking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced Dec. 20.
U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone sentenced Derrick Wayne Roberson, 32, to more than 19 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to the DEA.
According to information presented in court, law enforcement began investigating a drug trafficking organization operating out of Houston and into East Texas in 2023, following reports of increasing illegal activity, the DEA said.
The DEA said Roberson was a member of the organization and distributed methamphetamine, heroin, a fentanyl analogue, and firearms, including illegally modified weapons.
As part of the organization, Roberson transported contraband from the Houston area to East Texas, where he distributed the items to other traffickers and individuals, the DEA said.
