INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead after police say his vehicle was struck by an oncoming train on the city’s east side Saturday night.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 8:25 p.m. to the 5700 block of E. 34th Street near N. Arlington Avenue in response to reports of a possible fatal accident. IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and observed a white four-door Audi that had been struck by a train.
The vehicle had spun into the woods near the train track following the impact. The driver was an adult male in his mid to late 30s who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the driver tried to go around a crossing arm and the front of the train fatally struck the vehicle
IMPD’s fatal crash investigation team is also responding to assist. No other information was immediately available.
