MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Hundreds of kids around Mobile will get an extra boost for Christmas. Saturday morning, cars packed the parking lot of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for their second annual toy distribution.
Volunteers carried sacks of toys to waiting vehicles. The toys came from the Walmart Distribution Center.
The church was distributing $150,000 worth of toys. Organizers said they had to start early because so many vehicles had overflowed onto Cody Road.
“It has been a challenging time for people. So we’re grateful that God is allowing us to be a blessing to lessen the burden on families all over the city,” said Pastor Tremayne Benson.
Many people worked to make the event happen.
“I love the fact that we have a retailer in this city, in the county, who is willing to share the goods that are left over, they all new toys, nothing is old. I like that we’ll be able to share with our community,” said Family Ministry Director Sallie Martin.
The church also partnered with other charities to organize the event.
