Students at a local nursing school turned their tassels Friday night as they received their degrees and prepared to take on the workforce.
In total, 55 students graduated from the UPMC Jameson School of Nursing at UPMC Hamot.

Jim Donnelly, the chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services for UPMC Hamot, said the students spent 16 months doing rigorous study and more than 900 hours of clinical experience.
Donnelly said the vision began four years ago of working with the community to give people the opportunity to change their lives.
“Tonight, we’re seeing a mother and daughter graduate in the class together. We’re seeing an incredibly diverse set of individuals. We’re seeing people who really are realizing a dream of their lives. and it’s a moving experience to be a part of,” said Donnelly.
The school has graduated 172 students with nearly 150 employed at UPMC Hamot.
