Officials with the Village of Sinclairville in New York are asking residents to restrict their water use after a gasoline spill on Route 60 could risk contamination.
According to a release, officials are shutting down the main water wells that supply water to residents until they can verify that water from those sources hasn’t been contaminated after a motor vehicle crash leaked gasoline onto the roadway Saturday morning.
The village has two other wells that will be used to supply customers with water; however, the remaining wells cannot keep up with peak demand.

Because of this, customers are asked to reduce water use by:
- Limit washing clothes during this period or use a commercially available laundromat.
- Use less water for baths and take shorter showers.
- Use paper plates and disposable silverware to reduce washing dishes. Only run automatic dishwashers when completely full.
- Do not let water run when you’re not actively using it, such as while brushing teeth or shaving.
