CHICAGO – When you think of philanthropists, you usually thin wealthy people with deep pockets.
However, a 10-year-old boy in Chicago has proven all you need to help is a big heart.
At Revere Elementary, it was a heavy lift for 10-year-old Owen Hammond, who has planned for this moment for months.
An entire classroom of kids got bicycles, a bag of toys and warm weather gear.

The journey on two wheels began last year during the migrant crisis in Chicago.
“I was in the car with my mom and I noticed the immigrants by the police station,” Owen said.
That’s when he asked his mother a question.
“He asked what we could do to ensure they would have a good Christmas as well,” Owen’s mother Takara Hammond said.
Takara told WGN News they came up with the idea to hand out 50 bags of essentials to those in need, but Owen wanted to do more.
Over the summer, he raised money with a lemonade stand, selling popcorn and a raffle. In the fall, he gave away bookbags full of back to school supplies and set his 10-year-old sights on the holidays.
