Route 66 Barber School offers free haircuts to those dealing substance use disorders

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –The power of a good wash, cut, and style doesn’t just leave us looking good, but feeling good too! “I think this is a great setting for people that are in recovery because the people that are touching their heads and the seats that they’re sitting in in itself is like counseling, right?” said Antoinette Lucero, from State of the Heart Recovery .

A good haircut is more than just a change in appearance. The fresh transformation can also positively affect your self-image and confidence. This is why State of the Heart Recovery decided to offer free haircuts, to ‘taper’ those negative experiences from the past.

“So when you get in that chair and you got somebody coming into your doors that are coming straight off of the street, you want to feel that confidence in them. You want to make them feel beautiful. You want them to know that they are somebody,” continued Lucero.
