Burning building causes part of busy Midlands road to be closed, SC official says

Part of a popular Lexington County road was closed Sunday morning as crews from multiple fire departments responded to a burning building, City of Cayce officials said.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the fire in the 900 block of Knox Abbott Drive was under control, but one lane of the busy road remained blocked, according to officials.

“We are asking you to avoid the area ,” officials said.

No injuries were reported in the fire at 917 Knox Abbott Drive, according to officials. That’s where the Mrs. GoodFoot nail salon is located, near Tony’s Pizzalicious in an area that’s densely packed with restaurants and retail businesses. It’s about a mile from the Blossom Street bridge and downtown Columbia.

Information about how long it took to extinguish the fire was not available, but officials said the City of Cayce Fire Department was joined by members of Lexington County Fire and the West Columbia Fire Department in battling the blaze.

There was no word about where the fire originated or the cause of the fire. Officials did not say if foul play was suspected.
