NEW YORK — If the University of Richmond track and cross-country coaches don’t already know what they’re getting in John Jay-Cross River runner Andy Condon, they’ll probably soon learn it’s someone who doesn’t require much rest.
Condon began this week running a 1,000-meter race in a personal-best time, then, at the same meet, competed in a 1,600. Then, at another meet, he ran another 1,600, setting a personal-best at that distance.
All of that also added up to three wins.
Saturday, Condon added a fourth win.
Competing at the 150-school, 3,000-athlete Armory’s Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational, Condon easily won the boys championship two-mile race.
Taking the lead after a mile, Condon hit the finishing tape more than eight seconds ahead of his nearest competition, clocking 9:29.55.
With a closing kick, Nanuet’s Shane Ethakkan ran 9:44.54 to edge fellow Section 1 runner Victor Delgado of Hen Hud at the finish by .16 to secure fifth place in the 14-runner field.
Condon’s time was about two seconds off his goal, which would have qualified him for the championship division at New Balance Indoor Nationals.
