VENICE — HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital’s is bringing a free-standing emergency room to Venice next year to fill a void in South County left by the closure of ShorePoint Health Venice in 2022.
“We’re excited to be in the Venice community,” CEO Joe Rudisill said.
Construction of the 10,860-square-foot facility, which will be called HCA Florida Venice Doctors Emergency, is underway at 901 U.S. 41 Bypass S., the site of the former Last Straw furniture store.
The hospital acquired the property in February for $2.6 million, according to county property appraiser records.
The site is highly visible and easily accessible, and convenient for residents of the island and central and South Venice, he said.
“A lot of physicians affiliated with Doctors Hospital are also excited to have this resource in their backyard,” he said
The ER is expected to open in May, Rudisill said.
It will be a full-service 24/7 ER, not an urgent-care center, he said, treating all ages for any ailment or problem someone would go to a hospital-attached ER for, including conditions or injuries requiring ambulance transport to a separate EMS entrance.
