Q: We just received our new license plates but there was no directions on what to do with the old plates.
Also, I have a personalized plate that no longer applies to me. When will DMV reopen vanity plate orders? Soon, I hope.

A: When the new “ocean” plates are mailed out to replace the old “wave” plates, there are instructions on the front and back of the envelope that states “License Plate(s) and Registration Certificate/Instructions Enclosed. Remove Both Items.”
On the back of the mailing label is your new registration certificate. On the same side as the mailing label are your instructions. One of the bullet points states “Do not return your old ‘wave’ design plate(s). You may destroy them, recycle them or keep them as a souvenir.”
