As temperatures drop and the wind heralds the arrival of winter, Atlanta is stepping up to provide shelter for those in need. The city announced on its official website the opening of warming centers to offer protection against the cold, particularly for residents without a place to call home.
The Central Park Recreation Center, located at 400 Merritts Ave. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308, will serve as the main refuge from the winter chill. It will begin welcoming individuals on Friday at 8:00 p.m. and continue operations through the weekend. The City of Atlanta provided the schedule and additional details on its official website, noting that the temporary shelter will close at varying times each morning after the night’s operation.
To accommodate an expected overflow, the Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3404 Delmar Ln NW, Atlanta will also be available. While the night stretches its cold fingers across the city, Fulton County will provide transportation from the Gateway Center at 8:00 pm nightly to ensure safe passage to the warming centers.
