Opinion: Unruly residents: Chaos and disturbance at Fusion homeless hotel

An unpredictable, sometimes violent resident of Fusion Studios defaced the property overnight Saturday, scrawling graffiti all over the first-floor windows, offices, and elevators.

The mess was apparent as residents woke up Sunday and came downstairs. The guard on duty said the resident who made the mess is in jail after allegedly pulling a knife on him during the incident. The guard said the resident previously pulled the fire alarm twice Saturday night.

This same resident also vandalized the elevators and pulled the fire alarm on Friday. The resident is extremely manic and usually is screaming and flailing and his arms. I was assaulted July 2 by a resident with a lead pipe. This resident reminds me of my assailant in that his eyes are wild, he’s always aggravated, and he’s extremely unpredictable.

Free for all, chaos prevails at Fusion

I have written about this for four years now: the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, my landlord, must crack down on residents who threaten others and disturb the peace. The Coalition likes to say the care they provide is trauma informed. Trauma certainly informs everything that goes on here. Screaming, kicking in doors, fights … the chaos and trauma is non-stop. I often find myself grinding my teeth as residents scream at the tops of their lungs and disrupt the environment. Mostly, the disturbance comes from those who drink massive amounts of alcohol.
