Gainesville man sentenced for defrauding Social Security Administration

TAMPA, Florida ( MyFloridaNews ) — Keith Allen Courtney, a 53-year-old from Gainesville, has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison for conspiracy, according to a press release from the U.S. District Court. The court also ordered Courtney to forfeit $71,208, the amount he fraudulently obtained.

Courtney pled guilty on April 12, 2024, to conspiring to defraud the Social Security Administration (SSA) by hiding his work activity while applying for and receiving Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB). Based on false information provided by Courtney, the SSA approved his application and issued monthly payments totaling $71,208 from February 2016 to May 2020.

The case was investigated by the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne Huyler.
