ALEA Launches “12 Days of Safety” Campaign to Promote Holiday Road Safety

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is kicking off its annual “12 Days of Safety” campaign this weekend to emphasize the importance of safe driving during the bustling holiday season. The initiative begins on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, and runs through New Year’s Day, with daily safety themes aimed at reducing traffic accidents and ensuring that everyone arrives home safely.

“This campaign serves as a countdown to a safe holiday season,” said ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor. “Being responsible behind the wheel is the best gift you can give your family this year.”

During the campaign, ALEA will share safety tips across social media, community events, and press releases, addressing five key areas of risky driving: seat belt usage, distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and vigilance around commercial vehicles.

In Fiscal Year 2024, ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division reported 32,308 crashes, resulting in 7,357 injuries and 490 fatalities. ALEA Troopers issued over 283,000 citations and 143,000 warnings to curb dangerous driving behaviors. These sobering statistics underscore the necessity of the campaign, according to Colonel Jonathan Archer, Director of ALEA’s Department of Public Safety.
