Houston man faces federal charges for immigration fraud scheme

HOUSTON, Texas – A 57-year-old man from Houston has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, among other offenses, according to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Jesus Carlos Silva appeared before U.S. District Judge Yvonne Ho following an indictment filed on December 17. The indictment alleges that Silva operated a fraudulent scheme from March 2022 until December 2024, falsely promising to assist immigrants in obtaining U.S. citizenship or legal status. Silva allegedly posed as an immigration attorney affiliated with a Houston-based law firm, despite not being an attorney, and charged victims between $7,000 and $15,000 each….
