SF shellfish company recalls oysters due to norovirus contamination

( KRON ) – San Francisco company S&M Shellfish Company has recalled oysters due to multiple confirmed illnesses caused by norovirus contamination.

The recalled oysters are sold as Fanny Bay, Buckley Bay and Royal Miyagi Oysters.

The date of recall was Dec. 13.

According to the S&M Shellfish Company, individuals should refrain from consumption or distribution. The company asks the oysters to be returned to S&M Shellfish Company.

The seafood company also requests that businesses that sell its oyster products segregate and label the oysters as “not safe” and “don’t touch.”

S&M Shellfish Company also says businesses can destroy the oysters under supervision. To account for all the recalled products, S&M Shellfish Company asks the establishments to inform them of the destroyed product if it is not returned.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, norovirus is a contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.
