Christmas Eve is the last day to donate to the Caller-Times Children’s Christmas Appeal, an annual campaign to help make the holidays a little more merry and bright for Coastal Bend families in need.
As of Friday, the Caller-Times Children’s Christmas Appeal has raised $20,100. This time last year, $47,250 was raised.
The Boys & Girls Club of Alice is one of the seven agencies serving South Texas families in need who benefit from the Christmas Appeal.
Rick Del Bosque, executive director of the organization, said he is a “product of the club,” as he joined it as a child in 1968 and joined the staff 20 years later.
Del Bosque said being able to see the smiles on children’s faces when they get to shop for presents is “a sight to see.”
“It’s a great feeling to give back,” Del Bosque said. “We’re all emotional right now because of the holidays, but people should always give back to their community no matter the time of year. I wish donors could see the looks on these little ones’ faces when we take them shopping. It’s something I’ll never take for granted.”
