CUMBERLAND — Craig Owens was sworn in for his second term as Cobb County sheriff Friday night during the office’s annual employee awards gala.
Hundreds attended the gala at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel at Cobb Galleria dressed in their finest attire.
The annual program aims to celebrate not only the holiday season, but the accomplishments of the sheriff’s office’s sworn and civilian staff.
Owens, decked in a purple tuxedo, took the oath alongside Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson and Assistant Chief Deputy Gina Hawkins while surrounded by their families. All three were sworn in at the same time by Cobb Superior Court Chief Judge Gregory Poole.
In a speech at the end of the evening, Owens shared his vision for Cobb over the next four years, which includes continuing efforts to modernize the sheriff’s office, improving the office’s training platforms, building an office of well-educated cadets and maintaining truth, trust and transparency between the office and the public.
His priorities, he said, are chosen with the goal of leaving the sheriff’s office better than he found it.
