With Christmas landing this week, there are fewer concerts taking place, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, there are also quite a few “hometown shows” taking place with beloved local groups playing throughout the week, including Soul Asylum, Tommy Stinson, The New Standards, Kiss the Tiger, The Mary Cutrufello Band, The Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, and others.
Here’s what’s happening this week.
The Bad Plus
Wednesday, Dec. 25–Saturday, Dec. 28 at The Dakota (seven shows)
The Bad Plus just released its second album with the relatively new four-piece lineup. Complex Emotions features founding members Reid Anderson on bass and Dave King on drums, along with guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Chris Speed.
“With this new album and this new batch of music, we’re planting a flag to say that this version of the band has really come into its own,” Anderson said of the new recording. They’ll make a four-night, seven-show stand at The Dakota starting on Christmas.
