Fiery multi-vehicle crash shuts down I-8 near Boulevard

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A portion of Interstate 8 near the U.S.-Mexico border was shut down Sunday night after a fiery multi-vehicle crash.

All lanes of I-8 west at Ribbonwood Road near the SR-94 junction were closed at 8:40 p.m. Sunday after a multi-vehicle crash.

California Highway Patrol reports at least five vehicles, including a semi truck, were involved in a collision. One vehicle reportedly rolled and went off the interstate. Another vehicle is reported to have caught fire and exploded.

CHP did confirm to FOX 5/KUSI there were no entrapments. It is unclear at this time if there were any injuries.

Caltrans posted on X all lanes of I-8 west at Ribbonwood Road were blocked due to the traffic collision. They were starting to reopen lanes as of 9:15 p.m.
