Suspect in fatal hit-and-run identified

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the suspected driver of a Honda that struck and killed a pedestrian in Boynton Beach on Saturday.

Jesus Rene Roa, 54, of Atlantis, was driving a 2000 Honda Odyssey south in the 6000 block of Old Congress Avenue when he struck Robert Elsmore, 60, of Jupiter , who was pushing a wheelchair in the middle of the road shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Elsmore died at the scene, and the driver who struck him fled in his vehicle.

Few details have been released about the investigation. Deputies were able to determine the type of minivan from parts that were left behind. The specific car was identified Sunday and the driver’s name released Monday morning.

The Sheriff’s Office did not indicate whether or when Roa would be facing criminal charges.
