COPS: Man shot another with flare gun

PORT CHARLOTTE — A Port Charlotte man was in the Charlotte County Jail on Monday night, charged with shooting another person with a flare gun.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies got a call about someone being shot near Toledo Blade Boulevard and El Jobean Road around 5:20 a.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived, they found a person had been shot with a flare gun, reports show.

“The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the report states.

Deputies investigating the shooting determined 32-year-old Nicholas Sperduti was the suspect and found him at the 7-11 store at Tamiami Trail and Toledo Blade Boulevard.

He was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon “and will spend his holidays at the Charlotte County Jail,” the report states.

Sperduti, whose address is listed as the 600 block of Palmetto Drive, Port Charlotte, has been arrested several times dating back to 2020.

He has faced several charges, such as trespassing, petty theft and possession of drug paraphernalia, battery and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, as well as probation violations. In January, he was charged with grand theft auto and drug possession.
