18-wheeler leads police on chase through multiple Mississippi counties

A South Carolina man was arrested early Sunday morning following a high-speed pursuit in an 18-wheeler that spanned multiple counties in Mississippi.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department was alerted at approximately 12:19 a.m. on December 22 that a semi-truck, previously fleeing from Louisiana State Police, was entering Rankin County westbound from Scott County on I-20.

Deputies quickly located the vehicle near the 56-mile marker, observing it weaving dangerously across lanes. When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit.

The chase escalated as officers from the Pearl Police Department deployed spike strips near the 52-mile marker. The truck struck the strips but continued westbound, weaving through the City of Jackson and into Clinton before eventually coming to a stop.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver barricaded himself inside the cab. Law enforcement had to break the driver’s window to apprehend him.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old David Sergey Pozdnyakov of Duncan, South Carolina, was taken into custody. He faces charges of:
