2 men killed in shootings within blocks of each other in Sunnyside, HPD says

HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — Two men were shot and killed on the same street within hours of each other on the Sunnyside area of south Houston, police said.

The first incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday night at an apartment complex at 5145 Higgins Street. Houston police officers responded to a shooting call and found a man estimated to be 25 to 35 years old, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Later around 2:45 a.m. Monday morning, HPD officers were called for a shooting at the 5300 block of Higgins, two blocks east of the first shooting. There, they found a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds in a vehicle with its brake lights on. He was declared dead at the scene.

There is no evidence currently to connect both shootings.

Witnesses in both shootings heard gunfire, but did not see the shooting or any possible suspects in the area. HPD is checking surveillance footage to find clues on who the suspect or suspects are in these shootings.
