FLAT ROCK— A 16-year-old driver was killed when the BMW he was traveling in crashed at 5:16 p.m. Dec. 22 on North Highland Lake Road, North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Taylor, who investigated the accident, told the Hendersonville Times-News Dec. 23.
Benjamin Gregory Williamson died in the crash, Taylor said. His passenger, Elijah Reaves, 16, was briefly checked out at an area hospital and then released.
Williamson attended East Henderson High School, but Taylor said he did not know whether Reaves is also a student there. A Henderson County Public Schools spokesperson did not immediately return a message seeking comment Dec. 23.
Taylor said the crash occurred behind the Ingles in Flat Rock.
“It’s not a very dangerous area at all,” he said.
However, he said, “They did run off the road to the right, into a ditch, and then they hit an embankment. They did roll the vehicle, and then it did collide into another car, and the driver was ejected after that.”
The driver of the other car was OK, Taylor said.
