Alabama DHR no longer investigating new cases of SNAP benefit thefts

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WHNT ) — The Alabama Department of Human Resources announced that effective Dec. 21, the Congressional authorization for replacing stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits has expired.

Alabama DHR said it was only able to replace stolen benefits for thefts that happened between Oct. 1, 2022, and Dec. 20, 2024.

Officials said Alabama DHR will continue to process affidavits of theft for incidents that happened on or before Dec. 20 from households impacted by EBT card skimming, cloning and other kinds of similar fraud.

Reports of these thefts must be submitted to county DHR offices within 30 days of the client discovering the fraud. Location and contact information for all 67 county DHR offices can be found on the Alabama DHR website .

According to Alabama DHR, reports of these kinds of fraud will require confirmation from the client to verify that all information reported in the request is true and correct. Officials said these clients may be contacted regarding their requests.
