Some lucky Oklahomans might receive a unexpected check from the IRS soon if they didn’t claim the Recovery Rebate Credit in 2021.
The Internal Revenue Service has announced plans to send payments starting in December to a million taxpayers across the country. The Recovery Rebate Credit is a tax credit for individuals who did not receive one or more Economic Impact Payments (EIP), also known as stimulus payments, during the COVID-19 pandemic .
“The IRS announced the special step after reviewing internal data showing many eligible taxpayers who filed a return but did not claim the credit,” the agency said in a press release last week.
The checks will begin going out to taxpayers in December and should be completely distributed in January 2025, the IRS said.
How money much will be sent out?
Taxpayers can expect to receive a maximum of $1,400. In total, the IRS is sending a total of $2.4 billion to those who missed claiming the credit when they filed their taxes.
