SANTA ANA, California ( MyCaliforniaNews.com )— A United States Postal Service supervisor was arrested on allegations of stealing more than 20 checks from the U.S. mail and depositing them into her accounts at multiple banks.
Joivian Tjuana Hayes, a 36-year-old from Compton, is expected to make her initial court appearance this afternoon in United States District Court in Santa Ana.
Hayes, a supervisor at the Costa Mesa Post Office, has been charged with one count of bank fraud, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday. The affidavit supporting the complaint alleges that since July 2024, Hayes deposited checks with forged signatures of the payees, including one check for over $114,000, into her bank accounts at various banks. ATM surveillance video reportedly shows Hayes making deposits of multiple stolen checks at ATMs in Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa, and Compton.
The scheme allegedly involved more than $281,000 in stolen checks, and Hayes is also suspected of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in currency and gold coins from mail processed through the Costa Mesa Post Office, according to the affidavit. Federal agents executed search warrants at Hayes’s residence in Compton and her 2023 BMW vehicle.
