‘A one-stop shop’: Stockton navigation center for homeless set to open in early 2025

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 545 W. Sonora St. in Stockton to celebrate the soon-to-open Carol and Henry Zeiter Navigation Center.

The city of Stockton and St. Mary’s Community Services held the ceremony ahead of its expected opening in early 2025. The navigation center came into fruition in 2020, according to St. Mary’s Community Services interim CEO Pat Collier.

“The ribbon-cutting today was to indicate that this project is nearing its end, and we’ll be able to then start getting it ready for moving families in,” Collier said. “We’re currently ordering furniture and trying to get everything set inside. There’s still some construction going on, but we’ll have it finished, probably move-in ready, hopefully, end of January, first part of February.”

The new navigation center is designed to offer families shelter, programs, and services that “foster independence and long term stability,” a news release states.

Stockton City Manager Harry Black said that more than 20 contractors have been involved with the project, which was led by G&G Construction.
