The Lafayette Fire Department and community leaders of Lafayette officially re-opened one of the city’s oldest fire stations with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, signifying accessibility and improving the quality of their work environment.
Fire Station No. 2, located at 1013 Mudd Avenue in Lafayette, has been around since the early 1900s, and at its present location for over 40 years now.
With a rich history in the heart of Hub City, Fire Station No. 2 has stood as one of the oldest and most reliable fire stations in the area. Recently, it saw renovations to key areas of its building.
The renovations took a little over a year to complete by ARL Construction and Trahan Architecture + Planning, LLC at $2 million dollars.
Those renovations include moving their kitchen downstairs, giving the firefighters more space to cook, as well as putting new floors in throughout the building, according to Alton Trahan, public information officer for the LFD, said
Trahan said there is also a new sprinkler system and renovated bathrooms. Now, there are new bedrooms, splitting up and dividing their old dormitory room. The splitting up of the room with divided areas was with intention, Trahan said.
