( KRON ) — Three people were rescued at the Sonoma County coast Monday after a powerful wave swept them off their feet near Bodega Bay. Two of the individuals were hospitalized after the dramatic water rescues, according to the Sonoma County Fire District.
Two deputy chiefs were first to the scene after a 911 call reported the incident at Scotty Beach at around 12:30 p.m. One of the three people swept up by the wave was found clinging to rocks, while the other two were carried 150 feet up Scotty Creek, fire officials said.
Deputy Chief Busch was able to pull the person on the rocks to safety while Deputy Chief Windrem and firefighter paramedic Saluzzo rescued the two swept upstream. One of those individuals was found clinging to a log and the other was already making their way out of the water.
‘Dangerous and life-threatening’ beach conditions continue Tuesday
An ambulance transported two of the victims to the hospital while the third person was evaluated at the scene and released. The current condition of those hospitalized is unknown.
