- Sanctuary city New York pressured to make drastic change after illegal migrant allegedly burns woman alive (foxnews.com)
A woman was tragically set on fire and killed on a Brooklyn subway train on Sunday. The suspect, 33-year-old Sebastin Zapeta, has been charged with murder and arson.
Zapeta, a previously deported migrant from Guatemala, re-entered the US illegally after being deported in 2018. His arrest has reignited calls to end New York City’s sanctuary policies, which critics say allow undocumented immigrants to commit crimes without fear of deportation.
Surveillance footage shows Zapeta approaching the victim, who was seated on the train, and setting her alight. The suspect remained on the scene and was later apprehended.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of the city and the need to address the influx of migrants. Mayor Eric Adams has called for an end to the revolving door of violent criminals and has pledged to work with the Trump administration to deport undocumented criminals.
