Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms May Reach Across Louisiana This Evening
12/24/24 12:47pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. A slow moving frontal system is dragging itself across the Midwest and helping draw moisture and energy up from the Gulf of Mexico.
With a relatively strong contrast of temperatures in play, we are watching an area of heavy showers and thunderstorms slowly march to the east, southeast, and northeast across areas of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. While we don’t have any severe weather alerts at this time, we could see heavier embedded storms that will be capable of locally damaging winds and hail.
As that front draws up energy from the Gulf, we are also watching a small area of heavy showers and rumbles along the coast at the Texas & Louisiana state line. Watch for the continuation of small clusters of storms such as this that will form ahead of our cold front.
Eventually, we will watch this area break apart, then form a secondary and stronger line of thunderstorms across east and southeast Texas overnight tonight. This will be the “best” area to see the highest risk of severe weather, with a renewed risk of damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail, and torrential rain.
