LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Illegal animal breeding is an issue Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman says needs to be tackled.
“I was made aware of it because of the different Nevada SPCA where they’re dumping animals that aren’t perfect that they’re breeding at their doorstep … blind Frenchies,” Seaman said. “There is a huge illegal problem.”
Seaman wants to bring back an animal advisory committee she said the city hasn’t seen since the late 2000s. It would be made up of members appointed by the city council along with one person appointed by the director of public safety. The committee wouldn’t have any power — it would be tasked with informing the city council on animal welfare in the valley.
“They will be able to talk about the issues that are happening,” Seaman said.
The city’s recommending committee voted to push back an official vote. New Las Vegas mayor Shelley Berkley said she plans to visit the Animal Foundation to learn more before making a choice.
