(FOX40.COM) — A retail theft operation in Northern California led to the arrest of more than 50 people ahead of the holidays.
Last week, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Rancho Cordova Police Department partnered together for “ Operation Ugly Sweater ” to combat retail theft in Sacramento County. Deputies said the passage of Proposition 36 contributed to their efforts.

The operation supported more than 15 Sacramento County businesses by conducting undercover retail theft operations to apprehend retail thieves, according to SCSO. During the operation, more than 50 arrests were made, including nine felonies – seven of which officers said were made possible by prop 36.
Law enforcement said they arrested a father and 14-year-old son duo caught stealing several hundred collectible cards, suspects who possessed illegal firearms and drugs, a man who started a fire in front of a store, and several others.
