Victim’s son, bystanders apprehend alleged purse snatcher in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. — A man accused of snatching a woman’s purse outside of a bank in Joliet before he was apprehended by the victim’s son and a group of bystanders has been charged.

Officers said 19-year-old David Munoz-Ardila has been charged with one count of robbery in connection with the incident, which allegedly unfolded just before 10 a.m. on Monday, Joliet police said.

According to police, Munoz-Ardila was taken into custody shortly after the incident, thanks to the help of the victim’s son and a group of bystanders who held him down until police arrived.

Officers said the incident unfolded outside of a Bank of America in the 1400 block of West Jefferson Street when Munoz-Ardila allegedly robbed a 44-year-old woman of her purse as she was leaving the bank.
