GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Worshippers across West Michigan gathered at churches on Wednesday for Christmas Day services.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ in the Christian faith.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services remain popular traditions, including at Holy Spirit on Grand Rapids’ West Side. Two masses were held on Christmas Eve, as well as a Christmas morning mass.

Rev. Nick Baker said Christmas is a time for friends and families to remember how close God wants to be.
“What we celebrate today is the love of God, is that he actually humbled himself to become one of us so that he can save us,” Baker, associate pastor at Holy Spirit Parish, said. “And there’s no greater humility in all of human history than God becoming man, which is absolutely amazing.”
The Christmas season continues through early January with the Feast of the Epiphany.
