SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokanites gathered together in celebration at the Salvation Army’s Christmas program on Wednesday afternoon.
The Christmas event was hosted by the Salvation Army in Spokane’s Marshallese community. The Marshallese are an ethnic group originating from the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific Ocean.
The celebration included a Marshallese worship service, a warm meal, dancing a singing. It was meant as a way to provide Christmas cheer to those who might otherwise be spending the holiday alone.
“It’s a wonderful time of being together. Some cultural things are happening as well, and it’s Christmas and no one should be alone today,” said Captain David Cain of the Salvation Army.
