1 dead, 1 critical in Sheridan Gardens shooting, DMPD investigates

DES MOINES, Iowa — One person is dead following a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the Sheridan Gardens neighborhood.

According to police, at approximately 4:13 p.m. Des Moines Police Department patrol officers responded to the 2900 block of East 40th Court on reports of a shooting incident.

Several DMPD officers responded to the scene, including one off-duty officer who self-responded after hearing gunfire in the area. No gunfire was made from the officer in this incident.

An adult female was transported to the hospital with a gunshot injury. Police say she was in critical condition at the time of the transport.

An adult male was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that it was a domestic-related situation. There is not believed to be any ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

The Des Moines Police Department Crimes Against persons detectives have opened an investigation into the incident.

Expect an increased police presence while the investigation progresses.
