West Michigan hits the movies after Christmas morning

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After Christmas morning festivities, families around West Michigan packed movie theater lobbies in both big cities and small towns.

One of those movie theaters was M-89 Cinema near Plainwell. The nine-screen movie house opened at 3 p.m. Within minutes, the lobby was packed with moviegoers.

Some in the crowd were families, who were ending their morning of opening presents with an afternoon tradition of catching an animated movie. That included young Carter Hicks, who was waiting with his siblings and parents for “Mufasa: The Lion King.”

“We watch movies a lot on Christmas,” he told News 8. “We see a lot of them, but I’m not sure which one is my favorite.”

Others came for the new releases. Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” and “Nosferatu,” a remake of the 1920s film of the same name, were released this Christmas.

“I’m a big fan of the director (of ‘Nosferatu’). He’s made ‘The Witch,’ ‘The Northman’ and ‘The Lighthouse,’” said Max Fitzell. “They are all great. They are really good period pieces.”
