PUNTA GORDA — One man is in jail and another in critical condition following a late-night Christmas Eve shooting at a South Punta Gorda Motel.
Deputies were called at 11 p.m. Tuesday to the Jo El Motel at 11603 Tamiami Trail, when a caller, Jaquan Robinson, 18, said his father had been shot, according to court records.
Officers found Tony L. Robinson, 44, with a gunshot wound in the right side of his torso, record show. He was taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center hospital in Fort Myers.
“Deputies quickly secured the scene and with the help of a Punta Gorda Police officer, also located the alleged shooter who had remained on scene,” the report states.
The suspect, Ilyjah J. Madison, 20, had a loaded semiautomatic pistol at the time. Madison was “cooperative with the investigation,” the CCSO stated. Court records show he flagged down officers as they were approaching the motel.
Detectives described the weapon as a .38 caliber Ruger pistol that Madison had in his pants pocket when deputies arrived.
