CURRITUCK — The Currituck Board of Education will interview candidates for a vacant seat on its board at its first meeting in the new year.
The board agreed at its meeting last week to stick with its 4 p.m. deadline on Jan. 3 for applications to be turned in for the vacancy created by Janet Rose’s resignation, and to interview candidates seeking to replace her at the board’s meeting on Monday, Jan. 6.
The board also welcomed two new members at its Dec. 19 meeting: Sandi Ayres and Emily Crodick, both of whom were sworn in for four-year terms following their victories in the Nov. 5 General Election. Ayres defeated incumbent school board member Dwan Gibbs Craft for the board’s Moyock seat in a three-candidate race that also included Zedric McKennon. Crodick defeated incumbent Kelly Williams Peters for the Fruitville Township seat.
Also sworn in for a full four-year term at last week’s meeting was Jason Banks, who defeated Paul Beaumont in the Nov. 5 election. Beaumont, a sitting county commissioner, declined to run for re-election, choosing instead to run for a school board seat.
