Coast Guard suspends search for missing boaters off Southern California shoreline

Officials suspended the search on Wednesday for the two missing fishermen whose boat overturned on the rocky coast near Palos Verdes Estates.

The men, identified only as two men in their 50s, didn’t return after leaving on a small boat from Cabrillo Beach on Monday. They were supposed to return by midnight.

The search began Tuesday and their boat was eventually found overturned on the shore. A couple of people who saw the wreckage told KTLA that they saw the boat filled with holes and life vests, among other objects, scattered around the scene.

The search was eventually scaled back as rough weather conditions made it a dangerous situation for responders.

On Wednesday, the Coast Guard announced that the search had been suspended — citing no signs of distress. Searchers had been using both air and sea methods in the attempt to find the boaters, but authorities found no evidence that the men could be alive.
