A Christmas Day burglary at a closed Lowe’s in Plymouth Township led to the arrest of a man after a chase involving a box truck, foot pursuit, and a K9 unit, authorities said.
The incident began on Dec. 25, 2024, at 10:38 a.m., when Plymouth Township Police responded to Lowe’s on Chemical Road for a burglary in progress, according to a press release. Lowe’s remote monitoring center had detected a man inside the store, which was closed for the holiday.
When officers arrived, they observed a large Budget Rental box truck fleeing from the garden center side of the store. Police attempted to stop the truck, but the driver, later identified as Omar J. Dickens, rammed a marked police vehicle, striking its driver’s side door, officials said.
Dickens continued to flee in the truck before crashing it behind the Giant supermarket. He then fled on foot, heading onto train tracks behind the Metroplex Shopping Center.
With assistance from Whitemarsh Township Police K9 Officer Jim Sweeney and his K9 partner Diesel, Dickens was found hiding in a drainage pipe near the railroad tracks. He surrendered to police without further incident.
