Tragedy struck an Ohio prison on Christmas morning when corrections officer Andrew Lansing died after an inmate assault. The incident occurred at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe.
Officer Lansing’s sacrifice has left his family and colleagues devastated. “Instead of going home to his family, Officer Lansing made the ultimate sacrifice,” said department director Annette Chambers-Smith.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the assault, but no details about the inmate or the incident have been released. The prison remains under restricted movement.
Lansing was a well-respected employee with a friendly and outgoing personality. “He was always a professional who treated everyone with respect,” the department said.
The inmate suspected of the assault has been transferred to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
