GEARY COUNTY ( KSNT ) – More than a million people visited a popular fishing lake in Kansas over the course of 2024, marking it as a top tourist destination for the state.
Rick Dykstra with the Geary County Convention & Visitors Bureau ( CVB ) announced on Dec. 26 that Milford Lake is closing out another year of success as 2024 comes to a close. He said more than 1.25 million people visited the lake over the past year, providing a boost in income to the local area by attracting new visitors to Geary County.
“We are thrilled to witness the incredible impact Milford Lake has had on our community, region and the state of Kansas in 2024,” Dykstra said. “Though our visitation numbers are down from the previous year, we are still attracting over one-million visitors per year. The lake’s diverse offerings, from fishing and boating to camping and hiking, continue to resonate with visitors seeking outdoor recreation and unforgettable experiences.”
People visiting the lake and surrounding areas can find numerous activities to partake in such as fishing, camping, hiking, birdwatching, boating and more. The recently added Spray Park at the Milford State Park has also drawn families to the area.
